Speedwell Children’s Centre
Speedwell Children’s Centre offers a range of Family Support Services and activities for mums, dads and carers of children aged from 0 to 4 years.
- Play and learning activities for you and your child
- Support and information about parenting issues as your child grows up
- Support in the home for those who choose it
- Access to Family Health services, and Speech & Language advice
- Help with finding jobs, training or childcare
- Support for childminders
TIMETABLE OF ACTIVITIES
E.S.O.L (English for speakers of other languages)
9:15am - 11:15am
20 week course run by SPAN. Créche Available - must be booked in advance.
1:30pm - 3:00pm
For children aged 2½ - 3 years old and their parent/carer, to help children get ready for their nursery place.
STAY and PLAY (At St Aidan's Church Hall, Map available on request.)
9:30am - 11am
This Stay and Play session is run by staff from our Children's Centre and Orchard Lea Nursery
Breast feeding Support
12:30pm - 1:30pm
Support with Breastfeeding from Barnardos peer support Breastfeeding Counsellor.
Under 1’s group
1.30pm – 3pm
A relaxed atmosphere with support from the Health Visiting team and a Children’s Centre practitioner.
9am – 11.00am
Would you like to find creative and exciting ways to gain skills for work? Come along and develop your existing talents and learn some new ones at the Branching Out group held in the Children's Centre on Wednesday mornings.

Held at Hillfield's Library
An activity based group using nursery rhymes, music, dance and colourful props to help you learn about your babies communication. For parents/carers of young babies aged 2-8 months. Run in partnership with Hillfield's Children's Centre.
Stay & Play
9am – 11am
A friendly play session for babies to 4 year olds and their parents & carers.

Children's A&E services are changing
From 7 May, Accident & Emergency services will no longer be available at Frenchay Hospital. Your specialist children’s A&E department, for children up to the age of 16, will be located at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES
We can offer you and your family a range of support as your child goes through different stages of development, with helping your child learn, or to feel more confident and part of your community.
Please just ask if you would like to make a time to talk to one of our Family Support Workers, who can either meet with you here or visit you at home if you prefer.

Tax Tredit calculations
We have provided a computer in the entrance foyer for parents/carers to use. This can be used for job hunting, house hunting, benefit enquiries and to source other information. There is a list with the computer of local (5 mile radius of nursery) jobs available for you to look through. We also have a job of the week advertised on our parent's board in the entrance hall. Please book in at reception to receive help and log-in information.
ADVICE AND GUIDANCE SURGERIES
Hi, we are the Children Centre Advice and Guidance Worker team for the East Central Bristol area and can assist parents/carers with children aged 0-5yrs in:
- Identifying appropriate registered childcare options
- Helping to source funding to pay for childcare
- Signposting to relevant agencies who can provide return to work or training support
- Providing assistance in seeking employment or training opportunities
- Calculating entitlement to appropriate welfare benefits and tax credits including a better-off in work calculation
